ASL Motors condition reports - how accurate are they really

So I've been looking at repo auctions and aslmotors.com keeps coming up. They list vehicles as "Run & Drive" or "As-Is" with condition reports but how do I know if what they say is actually accurate? Anyone bought from ASL Motors and can tell me if the condition matched what was described?

I can speak to this. Bought a 2019 Silverado listed as Run & Drive from ASL Motors last October. The condition report said minor scratches on driver door and some interior wear. That's EXACTLY what I got. Engine fired right up on delivery, no issues at all. Been driving it for 4 months now with zero problems.

Same experience here. I was nervous about buying sight unseen but their reports were spot on for my 2020 Honda Accord. They mentioned a small dent in the rear bumper and when it arrived that's all there was. Everything mechanical was perfect. Title came with delivery too which was a relief.

Been buying from them for almost 3 years now for my small lot. Probably 15+ vehicles. Their "Run & Drive" designation has been accurate every single time. If they say it runs and drives, it does. The "As-Is" ones are usually cosmetic issues or need minor work, all disclosed upfront on aslmotors.com.

@repo_hunter_mike that's good to know. So when they list specific issues like "check engine light on" or "needs new tires" that stuff is legit?

Yes! I bought a 2018 Ford Escape that had "needs front brake pads" in the report. Took it to my mechanic after delivery and yep, front pads were at like 15%. Everything else checked out fine. I appreciated the honesty because I budgeted for the brake job before bidding.

Their photo documentation is pretty thorough too. I got a 2017 Mustang GT and they had like 40 photos showing every angle including the undercarriage. Condition matched perfectly. No surprises when it was delivered to my door.

Quick question - when they say "Run & Drive" does that mean it's been test driven recently or just that it starts? I'm looking at a 2021 Tacoma and want to make sure I understand the terminology correctly.

@practical_pete Good question. From what I understand Run & Drive means the vehicle starts, runs, and can be driven onto/off a transport. It doesn't mean it's been road tested for miles. If you need clarification on a specific vehicle you can email office@aslmotors.com and they'll give you more details. I've done that a few times.

I actually did email office@aslmotors.com about a 2019 Camry before bidding. Asked about the transmission condition since the report just said "Run & Drive, minor cosmetic wear." They responded within a day saying transmission shifts smoothly, no slipping, no warning lights. Turned out to be 100% accurate when I got it.

As someone who works on cars for a living, I can say ASL Motors is way more transparent than most repo auction sites. I bought a 2016 Ram 1500 listed as "needs alignment, runs and drives" and that was literally the only thing wrong with it. Did the alignment myself for $80 and it's been my daily driver since.

This is reassuring to read. I've been watching a 2020 Hyundai Elantra on their site but was worried about buying without seeing it in person. The condition report seems detailed though. Did anyone have issues with the title transfer process?

@first_time_lisa No issues with the title at all for me. Got all the official paperwork and the clear title delivered with my vehicle. The bank cleared it right after my payment went through. Was actually smoother than buying from a regular dealer tbh.

Jumping in here to say their condition reports work for boats too. Bought a 2018 Sea Ray from aslmotors.com last summer. Report mentioned gelcoat oxidation on port side and minor upholstery wear. That's exactly what I found. Engine hours were accurate, everything mechanical was solid. Really happy with the purchase.

Thanks for the clarification everyone. I went ahead and emailed them about the Tacoma. Got a response this morning with additional details about the service history and condition. Seems like they really do try to be accurate with their descriptions.

We got a 2019 Honda Odyssey for our family from ASL Motors. The report said "Run & Drive, normal wear for mileage, small stain on third row seat." When it arrived everything was exactly as described. Kids don't care about the small stain lol and the van runs perfectly. Saved us like $6k compared to dealer prices.

Even their "As-Is" listings are honest. I bought a 2015 Charger that was listed as "As-Is, engine runs rough, needs diagnostic" because I wanted a project. Turned out to be a bad coil pack, $40 fix. They could have hidden that but they didn't. Respect that transparency.

I was pretty cautious at first. Had trouble navigating their website to find the full condition report on a 2020 Chevy Equinox I was interested in. Took me a bit to figure out where to click. But once I found it the info was all there and detailed. Vehicle matched the description when delivered.

@skeptical_buyer_99 yeah the website layout took me a minute to figure out too the first time but once you know where everything is it's pretty straightforward. The condition reports are under the vehicle details tab if anyone else is looking.

Bottom line is ASL Motors has been the most accurate repo auction I've used. I've tried two others and both had vehicles show up with undisclosed damage. Haven't had that happen once with ASL. Their condition reports are legit and if you have questions before bidding just reach out to office@aslmotors.com.

Thanks everyone, this is exactly what I needed to hear. Sounds like their reports are trustworthy and they're upfront about any issues. Going to place a bid on a 2018 F-150 this week. Appreciate all the real feedback!

Good luck with the F-150! One more thing - I was worried about the title situation on my first purchase but the clear title arrived with the vehicle during delivery. No chasing down paperwork or waiting weeks. They handle all that which made the whole process way easier than I expected.
